SCIENCE DAY AT POWERHOUSE

DC POWERHOUSE promises to bring together the documentary industry, from filmmakers new and established, to industry experts, funders, producers, and more to create new connections, foster new ideas, and hear the newest documentary pitches.
On Saturday, 28 October, POWERHOUSE will present 'Science Day', a full day dedicated to innovations in science communication.

SCIENCE DAY: MORNING
SILBERSALZ INSTITUTE ART PITCHES
The SILBERSALZ Institute is our newest training programme, designed to bring scientists and researchers into the media fold. Over the course of a year, 12 different projects were developed with media experts with the aim to bring scientific research to a broad audience in creative and communicable ways.
Our first stop on Science Day at DC POWERHOUSE is the 2023 SILBERSALZ Institute arts pitches. This year's cohort of scientists and researchers will pitch their ideas for arts-based productions including installations and interactive media. Media experts, producers, funders and commissioners will be invited to comment on the pitches, forge new connections, and bring the world of science to the masses. We can't wait to hear what our scientists have in store.
SCIENCE DAY: AFTERNOON
SCIENCE SPARKS
At two roundtable pitches, young talent will present their groundbreaking ideas in science. Media experts and science communicators are invited to take part, and shape these ideas into creative, commercial media productions.
From trout to the cosmos, the research presented at the Science Sparks pitches are exciting, new looks into the cutting-edge research that affects the world over. The pitches will be moderated by science communicator Mohamed Daoud. Come along and see what the future generation of science communicators are exploring!
SCIENCE DAY: EVENING
SCIENCE AND MEDIA AWARDS 2023
Science communication productions were submitted from across the globe for the 2023 Science & Media Awards, to be honoured on Science Day at DC POWERHOUSE this October. 40 films, shorts, series, and interactive media pieces were nominated to 8 different categories from an outstanding selection of productions.
We're capping off Science Day at DC POWERHOUSE with the prestigious award ceremony, presented by award-winning science communicator Jon Chase, also known as the 'Science Rapper'. Celebrate the winners and appreciate all that science has to offer the world with us.
SILBERSALZ SCIENCE & MEDIA FESTIVAL
The 3-day DC POWERHOUSE is enveloped in the SILBERSALZ Science & Media Festival, an annual festival presented in Halle (Saale) for science communicators, science fans, and science novices alike. The city of Halle will be lit up with films, talks, live events, installations and – most importantly – new ideas.
The full programme is now out! Join us for Opening Night film Breaking Social, a clever and inspiring documentary on pushing societal norms. Filip Roca brings us Pulse, a exclusive commission for SILBERSALZ, where Halle's Marktkirche will be lit up each evening, becoming a place for wonder and collective meditation. Meet with scientists to talk 1-on-1 about any specific questions you've always had, and join panel discussions on poverty, identity, and food chemistry. Plus dance the night away with DJs and multimedia artists.
