Anastasiia Bortuali

Anastasiia Bortuali is a Ukrainian filmmaker based in Iceland. Following the outbreak of war in Ukraine and the destruction of her hometown, she fled with her family and rebuilt her life in exile, where cinema became a way to process displacement, memory, and resilience.

Her debut documentary Temporary Shelter, filmed with and about displaced people, was selected for the TIFF industry program. Anastasiia’s work often blends documentary sensitivity with fictional storytelling, focusing on fragile states of transition and quiet emotional landscapes.

She is currently developing the documentary 18 WINTERS, an intimate portrait of young people navigating belonging and uncertainty in Iceland.
