A Golden Voice - Zhou Xuan - A Forgotten Story

A Golden Voice, is a feature-length documentary about legendary Chinese movie star Zhou Xuan (周璇), told through the eyes of her granddaughter Christine Zhou, aka Zhou Xiao Xuan (周小璇).

This documentary will follow Christine as she retraces her grandmother’s footsteps through her personal history, paralleled with historical events, and meets family members, film experts, and historians. As someone who moved across continents, I want to portray both the sadness and beauty of my grandmother’s story.

Being named after her, making this film helps me discover what her legacy means to my family and me. I am seeking understanding and hope to find my own way to understand what it means to carry her name.
