El Medestansi

The film starts in a poor neighbourhood on the outskirts of Tunis, where most young people suffer from unemployment and frustration. They have one thing in common: Mehrez. An unemployed 25 year old, who wants to obtain access for young people from deprived neighbourhoods to culture. He drags some of them to the cultural centre, where they stand on its stage carrying their screams of anger and dismay, so the dream is not lost and does not vanish… The authorities stop them and repress them by all means. They throw Mehrez in jail, close down the cultural centre, and watch over the mosques. The system does not leave them the opportunity to fight it, except through religious extremism or artistic creativity. The film delves into the life of Mehrez, covering the period from 2005 to 2013, he, who is still unemployed, and his friends, who each is following his own path…
