Off the Record

This is the story of three German friends who had a dream: to open a record shop and establish an indie techno label to release their own music. That label is Kompakt – today a global million-dollar enterprise. Their business philosophy is one of a "family affair" – based on friendship and trust. But in times of a globalized digital music industry their ideals are at stake. Michael Mayer, CEO of Kompakt and one of the busiest touring DJs in the world, is in charge of re-focusing.

Via his journeys around the globe, the film explores techno cultures in unexpected places. Through his struggles with Kompakt, the documentary tells a modern tale about keeping a balance while trying to realize your ideals.
