China Lisa

Country
Germany

Can the son of Chinese peasants become rich by producing one copy of the Mona Lisa after another to sell to Westerners who have lots of money but little taste.

The film tells the story of Win, a poor Chinese boy who sets out to make his fortune in the world's largest artists' village. His dream is to become rich as a painter. But while he learns how to produce replicas of the Mona Lisa, he starts dreaming of painting pictures of his own.

China Lisa is a film about modern-day China, but it is also a gentle sideswipe at Western individualists who decorate their livings-rooms with cheap reproductions.
