Path of Asha - The Girls from the Mountain Schools

Path of Asha

The film Path of Asha (Asha means “hope” in Sanskrit, an ancient language of Buddhist tradition) follows three women whose lives began in the same remote Himalayan village and were forever changed by a single opportunity: access to education through the support of a small aid organization.

One stayed in Nepal, living within her Tibetan culture, but as a stateless refugee without citizenship, she has few real prospects. The second left Nepal, built a new life in the USA, and deliberately maintains ties to her Tibetan roots. The third moved to Europe, where she lives a Western lifestyle and gradually drifts further away from her cultural heritage.

When Mémé (Tibetan for “Grandfather”), the founder of the organization, passes away, the fragile network of mutual support begins to crumble. Scattered across the globe, the women search for ways to keep the organization’s work alive.

Path of Asha is a story of persistent hope, told through a sense of belonging despite great distance, through loss and responsibility, and through people who carry their culture in their hearts across every border.
