The Last Storyteller of Malaysia

This documentary is based on an interview with the storytellers from Malaysia. While historicizing storytelling in Malaysia, we pay attention to the rituals of storytelling in present as it describes. We would have lost Pawang Ana too had it not been for the prescient Richard O Winstedt, a colonial officer who recorded and published (aided by a local man of letters Raja Haji Yahaya) the story-telling of this sleuth and story-teller. The loss of one of Malaysia’s great wayang kulit in Kelantan, Dollah Baju Merah, Tok Selampit and Awang Batil in Perlis.
