Robert Summerfield
Robert Summerfield is a German-American documentary filmmaker based in Berlin.
He has written and directed documentaries for European public broadcasters including ARTE and ZDF, spanning formats from television documentaries to series and hybrid experimental formats.
His recent film Aufbruch im Land der Massai (ARTE) follows the Nashulai Maasai conservancy in Kenya as they reclaim indigenous land in the face of land grabbing, blending political urgency with intimate observation. Alongside his European broadcast work, Summerfield has collaborated with international cultural and civic initiatives such as Global Citizen, where he has worked with grassroots projects in Kenya and Rwanda to raise awareness for global health and scientific capacity building.
A Wim Wenders Foundation Fellow, Summerfield is currently developing a feature-length documentary that explores personal growth and resilience in times of global existential
risk.
