Katalin Hanappi is a Vienna-based film director. She began her media career at thirteen, anchoring a youth news program on Austria’s national broadcaster, ORF. Having grown up across Austria, the U.K. and North America, she developed an early fascination with storytelling through writing, photography and theatre.

Katalin has directed numerous short and feature-length documentaries in the fields of science, nature, and adventure. Her work often shines a light on environmental and wildlife conservation issues.

Named among Austria’s “Best 30 Under 30” journalists in 2015, Katalin also serves as an ambassador to the Jane Goodall Institute Austria. Her debut fiction short Aya’s Dream won “Best Film on African Cultural Issues” at the Lake International PanAfrican Film Festival in 2022. She is currently completing a master’s degree in Screenwriting at the Film Academy Vienna.
