Having obtained a Bachelor’s and Master’s degree in Philosophy and in Literature, Jacques Schmitz has been working as a freelance artist (painter and writer). A selection of his poems and short stories have been printed and a theatre play is currently in discussion with several publishers. Jacques' oil paintings, characterised by colourful provocation, have won several awards. In smaller film projects, Jacques gained experience as an AD as well as in Production. With this project, Jacques acts as Co-Director and Author. He is intrigued by understanding the “invisible” moral line of tourists when they are exploring so-called “exotic” places. Why do people today increasingly try to have extreme and "authentic" tourist experiences in a world where you can "travel" anywhere from the comfort of your screen? Do we as humans need to feel like pioneering explorers again? Do we mainly travel to share selfies on Instagram? And can one even travel in an "authentic" way, or are we all just guests in the tourist show that is sold to us as an all-inclusive package?
