Jane Mingay
As an authored filmmaker, Jane has worked on a wide variety of subjects and to each project brings a strong vision which encompasses skilled and layered storytelling, defining narrative, a strong visual identity and a deep understanding of when to use actuality, archive, graphics and interviews to create her vision and serve the story.
Jane also has a strong track record of directing talent as well as making films about complex social issues. As an award-winning photojournalist working internationally for 12 years before re-training as a documentary director, Jane brings a solid journalistic background, a photographic aesthetic eye for storytelling, the ability to be non-obtrusive, to re-create atmospheres and an instictive understanding of aesthetics and how audiences consume and relate to images and footage.
Jane is also highly skilled at finding and developing her own stories as well as working and developing a brief. Sensitive and empathetic, she is extremely attuned to her subjects and creates strong long-lasting relationships, sometimes filming contributors intimately over many years. She enjoys storytelling and collaborating with subjects - enabling them to have agency and context in telling and revealing intimate truths and experiences.
Having lots of experience of working on a wide variety of subjects and environments: from conflict zones with hostile environments training to the inner workings of Parliament to music festivals, Jane has worked under extreme pressure and sensitivity: intimately following Prime Ministers, being embedded with soldiers on the frontline of Afghanistan, following the aftermath of humanitarian disasters as well as gaining trust and filming contributors intimately over many years.
