Mémé

Mémé

Mémé interweaves two narrative strands. In the present, Angela, Tenzin and Mingmar attempt to carry on the life’s work of their late friend Dieter – an educational fund for Tibetan and Nepali children in remote Himalayan communities. While Angela sorts through his estate in Germany and reconnects with the two former scholarship students, the decision grows to travel to Nepal together. There, they must navigate stateless identities, political constraints, and the question of how to sustain such a project responsibly today.

In parallel, the film explores the past – Dieter’s life story: his youth as a devoted mountaineer, the loss of his two sons in an accident, his journey to Nepal in search of new purpose, and the encounter with a small girl that sparked his decades-long commitment. The two strands weave together into a story of perseverance, connection and renewed hope.
