Munkhchimeg ‘Muugi’ Davaasharav
Munkhchimeg ‘Muugi’ Davaasharav is an investigative journalist, journalism trainer, and media consultant from Mongolia with over 15 years of experience. She has reported extensively on Mongolia’s social, cultural and human rights issues for some the most prestigious media outlets in the world, including Reuters, The New York Times and The Guardian.
Aside from her reporting, Muugii is committed to journalistic excellence. She is a member of the GIJN Women and serves as an assessor for the International Fact-Checking Network. In 2019, she played a crucial role in establishing independent news bureaus for the Global Press Journal in Mongolia, training its reporters to uphold the highest standards of journalism.
As a media consultant, Muugii has worked with local civil society organizations, UNFPA, and UNDP to promote gender-sensitive journalism. Her efforts led to the creation of the News for Equality coalition in partnership with the Media Council of Mongolia, which now has over 500 members. Collaborating with Internews and the BBC 50:50 project, she has disseminated methodologies to amplify women's voices in Mongolian newsrooms.
