The Malaysian Jungle Book

The Malaysian Jungle Book

In the remote rainforests of Peninsular Malaysia’s Royal Belum State Park, a team of filmmakers uses remote cameras to explore the animals’ life in one of the world's most biodiverse and endangered ecosystems. The documentary features three Malayan tigers - fewer than 150 of which remain in the wild - and several Asian elephants, along with sun bears, tapirs, black panthers, clouded leopards, and dholes (just to mention a few) exploring their interactions within this fragile habitat. Among the tigers roams the elusive Slender Tigress; among the elephants wander Curious Spirit, and his protective mother, Silent Guardian. When Slender Tigress sets out to hunt Curious Spirit, the emotional toll intensifies, emphasising the severe impact of food scarcity driven by an outbreak of Asian swine fever. With tiger cubs disappearing and the tiger population at risk, the film raises questions about conservation and survival. Will the tigers be able to overcome the lack of food and start breeding again? Is there still a place for wilderness in our world?
