Killian Bayer is an Irish-German documentary filmmaker, cinematographer, and journalist based in Berlin. His work focuses on human-centered stories across Europe and the Middle East, shaped by geopolitics, conflict, and the personal consequences of global power shifts. He combines directing, cinematography, and field reporting.

After graduating from Berlin’s German-American John F. Kennedy School, he studied Interdisciplinary Russia Studies at the University of Potsdam and lived in Moscow and Irkutsk, Siberia, where he began working with German media.

He trained through Deutsche Welle’s international journalism traineeship and later worked as a correspondent and primary shoot/edit for DW’s Riga bureau, covering Eastern Europe and the Baltics. He also works as a Reporter and News Editor in DW’s TV Newsroom, contributing to daily broadcast production and fast-paced editorial decision-making.

His work includes extensive international field experience — filming in Russia, Iran, Iraq, and Afghanistan — blending journalistic rigor with cinematic observation, with a focus on access, trust, and lived experience.
