2nd Symposium 1999
International Symposium on Wildlife & Natural History Films
Discovery Campus encouraged authors, directors, producers and commissioning editors to revitalize the German Natural History and Wildlife sector. Although the genre achieves excellent ratings and is extremely popular among the audience, German producers, directors and commissioning editors hardly play any role on the growing international market. In practically orientiated workshops and seminars professionals and newcomers got a chance to meet specialists from Austria, England, Sweden, the Netherlands and the United States. Through case studies these international experts gave an insight into the way they develop, produce, distribute and market their Natural History and Wildlife films. By presenting new productions the participants got to know the current state of the art in this highly specialised genre. DISCOVERY CAMPUS wanted to encourage documentary filmmakers and producers to rediscover a fascinating genre and promising market. The symposium gave new talents and professionals the chance to build up contacts and to exchange their views and experiences. Our aim was to bring new dynamic into Wildlife and Natural History filmmaking in a country in which German directors like Bernhard Grzimek or Heinz Sielmann once used to set international standards.
