3rd Symposium 2004
Documentary at its Best
New Approaches in European Documentary Storytelling
Are we in danger of forgetting what all the 'buzz' around international coproductions, presales, formatting, slots and audience shares is about? Does the complicated and tiring struggle for reasonable financing and the numerous pitching sessions eat up too much of our energy that should be put into good filmmaking and storytelling? In September 1999, Discovery Campus organised its first public documentary symposium on archive-based documentaries in Munich. Five years later we invited filmmakers, producers, commissioning editors, distributors, journalists and cinephiles to Prague, one of the new centers of a Europe growing together, to explore the state of the European documentary.
