2nd Symposium 2003
Beyond Borders - New Horizons in the East
Discovery Campus invited filmmakers, producers, distributors and commissioning editors from Eastern and Western Europe to join the documentary film symposium in Prague from June 20th - 22nd, 2003. The 2nd 'Open Training Session' of the Discovery Campus Masterschool 2003 titled “Beyond Borders – New Horizons in the East” was dedicated to international coproductions between East and West. Case studies shed light on the chances and risks of cross-border cooperations. Experts presented successful strategies for independent filmmakers and producers on how to establish oneself in the international non-fiction market. Furthermore, global media players such as ARTE, Discovery Networks and National Geographic gave an insight into their activities in Eastern Europe. For documentary filmmakers, the eastward expansion of the European Community and the MEDIA Plus Programme have been opening up a plenthora of new topics and exciting challenges for coproductions. The aim of Discovery Campus during this Symposium was to take on these challenges uniting new talents and professionals from East and West. “Beyond Borders – New Horizons in the East“ was organized in cooperation with the IDF (Institut documentárního filmu) in Prague and the EDN (European Documentary Network) in Copenhagen.
