1st Symposium 2003
What Broadcasters are really looking for
"What broadcasters are really looking for" was the title of the first Discovery Campus symposium in 2003. Around 200 participants and experts from 22 countries discussed exciting new non-fiction coproductions, four of which were a world premier, in the MDR building in Leipzig on April 12th and 13th. Commissioning editors from broadcasters like ARTE G.E.I.E., ARTE France, AVRO, Discovery Channel Deutschland, Discovery Networks International, NDR, ORF, RTÉ, YLE und ZDF gave an exciting visual insight into their slot profiles with the help of numerous film excerpts and explained the criteria for their programming decisions. In a special, the Canadian distribution expert Jan Rofekamp (Films Transit, Montréal) presented impressive documentary film expositions. How do you convince your audience (from buyer to viewer) that your film is worth seeing when the first minutes decide? Furthermore, the documentary filmmakers got an informative insight into the ARTE programme reform set for 2004.
