Symposia
Through a variety of public symposia, Documentary Campus tackles special, contemporary themes pertaining to challenges and developments in the international non-fiction film market and innovations in the genre.
Open Training Sessions
The weekend-long Open Training Sessions are accessible to a broad, professionally interested audience. These conferences offer outstanding networking opportunities and consist of presentations, case studies and panel discussions. In particular, the characteristics of different genres - such as the historical, the scientific, the animal and nature or the portrait film - are looked into, as these genres are now more than ever developing their own distinct aspects. The Open Training Sessions take place in various European cities and have each been attended by as many as 250 participants.
Topics
- Story development, narrative strategies, project presentation and special dramaturgy
- Aesthetic demands on documentary programmes and directing for an international audience, with special reference to modern technologies
- (Co-)production and financing of documentary projects for the international market
- Distribution, promotion and marketing of non-fiction products for an international audience
- Use of digital technologies in the creation, production and distribution of audiovisual works
- Strategic company management in an increasingly interwoven global arena
- Guidance on special genres and segments of the international non-fiction market
Final Pitching Session
Every Masterschool culminates in a final pitching of the developed Masterschool projects to more than 50 distinguished commissioning editors and distributors from Europe and North America. Furthermore, selected guest directors and producers are invited to present their new documentary ideas to the decisionmakers.
The event offers a great opportunity for observers and participants alike to meet commissioning editors and distributors in an intimate and friendly atmosphere. Listening to the pitches and reactions of the decisionmakers, observers get a good insight into the slots and profiles of the broadcasters, their programming needs and trends in the international non-fiction market.
Documentary filmmakers, producers, distributors and commissioning editors are welcome to take part in the Masterschool Pitching Session as observers.
