One week left to sign up for Faster, Leaner, Keener, Meaner -
Survival of the Fittest in Factual

Munich, 8 May 2009 - There are just seven days left to register for “Faster, Leaner, Keener, Meaner” taking place at Manchester Town Hall on Saturday 23rd and Sunday 24th May.

Documentary Campus will present 2 days of exciting panels & case studies with a range of fantastic experts discussing new and innovative production technologies, a walk around 360, variations on the theme for incorporating animation into documentary and even future plans to create a computer programme that spits out formatted programmes at the push of a button. The goal is to highlight fresh models, simulations and stimulations in a rapidly changing mediascape. The event will offer networking possibilities during lunch & coffee breaks and a great party at the Copperface Jacks Pub at the Palace Hotel. By leaving the symposium the delegates will be ready to “Survive in Factual”!

Highlights of the weekend will include talks by Mark Wild, newly appointed Director of International Development for National Geographic Channel and Laura Fleury, Vice President of Non-Fiction & Alternative Programming for the commissioning network, A&E.

Other presentations will include Portal Video from Boston, Charlotte Uzu from Les Films d’Ici and Sascha Hartmann from the Franco–German TV network, ARTE. The weekend will open with a word from Tom Koch, Vice President of America’s PBS Distribution.

Paul Simpson, Managing Director of Visit Manchester, said: “The Documentary Campus is a great example of an event that is helping to increase Manchester’s reputation as a centre for creative media and filmmaking.

“The event will also boost Manchester’s status as a leading conference destination. With MediaCityUK opening in 2011, Documentary Campus is a perfect opportunity to showcase the city to these industry professionals.”

Mike Todd, Board Member of NFN, said: “Campus is a fantastic project and gives film makers invaluable exposure to the international documentary market. To have a film selected for their masterschool programme provided us with opportunities that otherwise simply wouldn't have been possible."

MIDAS said “We are delighted that the Documentary Campus have chosen Manchester as the venue for their 2009 conference, a further indication of Manchester's position as a leading European Media centre. Manchester is already home to several national and internationally significant media conferences, including Television for the Nations and Regions, B.Tween and the Media Festival, the addition of the Documentary Campus cements the City Region's position in the global creative economy.”

University of Salford’s MediaCity Director John Holland, said ‘We are delighted to be the HE partner to this truly inspirational event. The University has a strong track record in Documentary Film making and are delighted that our students are able to participate in this & future events. Looking forward to 2011 and the return of Documentary Campus the University will be at the very heart of MediaCity UK where we will be a cauldron of creativity, a global digital hub where talented people of differing disciplines meet, where ideas are incubated and given expression, where Higher Education transforms the business of wealth and job creation, where the frontiers of knowledge are rolled back and dreams are realised. A destination, a place for work and for play.”

Donata von Perfall, Director of Documentary Campus, said: “We believe that this event will be an important opportunity for documentary professionals and companies from the Manchester region and all of the UK as they will have access to senior personnel from international broadcasters and like-minded colleagues from all over Europe.”

Those wishing to apply can register by filling out an application form available here. The submission deadline for registrations is the 15th May.
