Visions du Réel award for The Mother
The Visions du Réel International Film Festival in Nyon (April 17-23) announced last night that The Mother by filmmakers Antoine Cattin and Pavel Kostomarov was awarded the Prix George Foundation du Meilleur Film Newcomer. This award in the category Cinema Suisse comes along with a prize money of 10.000,- CHF. Antoine and Pavel developed their project The Mother at the Discovery Campus Masterschool (DCM) 2005 and successfully presented it at the DCM pitching session of that year. The documentary is a coproduction of Les Films Hors-Champ, Les Films D'Ici, Parallax Pictures, Television Suisse Romande with ARTE France, YLE TV2 and TVOntario.
About the festival: Visions du Réel describe themselves as a unique international festival providing an overview of the best of cinema du réel. It is the most important festival in French-speaking Switzerland, and as one of the three main festivals in Switzerland (along with Soleure and Locarno) to be recognised by the Confederation, it features among key international events.
