BFI & Grierson Trust award prize to Mosquito Problem
The Times BFI London Film Festival Grierson Award was presented yesterday, 22 October, by the BFI and the Grierson Trust to The Mosquito Problem & Other Stories for best documentary in the Festival. The screening of the film, which was developed at the Discovery Campus Masterschool 2004, was followed by a reception with winning filmmaker Andrey Paounov, and Chairman of the Grierson Trust, Jenny Barraclough.
The Grierson Trust (www.griersontrust.org) commemorates the pioneering Scottish documentary maker John Grierson (1898 – 1972), famous for Drifters and Night Mail, and the man widely regarded as the father of the documentary. The registered charity exists to promote documentary film making and to celebrate the work of John Grierson. Its forerunner, the Grierson Memorial Trust, was founded in 1974.
The Times BFI 51st London Film Festival (www.bfi.org.uk) claims to showcase the best new films from around the world. Originally conceived as a 'festival of festivals', the LFF has been screening a selection of strong titles from other European festivals. The festival differs from a lot of other European film festivals in being primarily about bringing film to the public, offering opportunities for people to see films that would not otherwise get a UK screening, but also screen films which will get a release in the autumn or spring.
