My Life with Carlos nominated for the Grimme Prize 2012
My Life with Carlos (DCM 2005), directed by German Berger, produced by Gebrueder Beetz Film Production and supported by Filmstiftung NRW, MEDIA, Programa Ibermedia, Corfo – Gobierno de Chile – Consejo Nacional de la Cultura y las Artes, CECC and Cine Sur, is nominated for the Grimme-Prize 2012.
In 1973, Chilean political activist Carlos Berger Guralnick was murdered by the Pinochet regime in the notorious "Caravana de la Muerte" - the death convoy. This tragic event shattered a family. Carlos’ wife Carmen Berger turned her life and work as a lawyer into a never-ending campaign against the dictatorship. But her son, German Berger, remained virtually ignorant about his father. The family only spoke of Carlos as political icon, never as a person or of their feelings about their loss. German has now decided to break the taboo for the first time, provoked by the birth of his daughter. In his personal search for his father, he will probe his own family about how they dealt with pain, injustice and remembrance. It’s a family story which resonates with the fate of a country.
