Masterschool Winners at Prix Europa 2008

PRIX EUROPA 2008, Europe's most important competition for television, radio and emerging media, ended with the Awards Gala on 25 October. Over 1000 media professionals had travelled to Berlin to select the best productions of the year 2008. 213 productions from 31 countries had been nominated for the festival and presented in eight juries during the festival week.

Razvan Georgescu, participant of the Discovery Campus Masterschool 2002, was awarded a PRIX EUROPA Trophy and 6,000 Euros in the category Best Television Documentary Programme of the Year 2008. In his film “Testimony,” Georgescu, himself diagnosed with a brain tumour, sets out on a journey exploring the realm between life and death and the role art can play in it by interviewing six artists, who themselves are terminally ill.

“Divorce Albanian Style,” which was developed in the Discovery Campus Masterschool 2003 by Bulgarian filmmaker Adela Peeva, received a Special Commendation in the same category. The film’s story of love and separation takes place in the surreal world of 1960s communist Albania. Survivors of this extraordinary period reveal the experience of the many thousands of families that were forcibly separated by the totalitarian regime of Enver Hodja.
