Alison Millar wins Prix Italia with film project pitched in 2006
Discovery Campus is delighted to hear from Kevin Dawson, Commissioning Editor, Factual at RTÉ, that the documentary At Home With The Clearys by Alison Millar and Tern TV, pitched at the Final Pitching Session of the Discovery Campus Masterschool 2006, has won the Prix Italia for Best Documentary in the category of Cultural and Creative Documentary. Clare Duignan, Director of Programmes at RTÉ, who was in Cagliari for an EBU Programming Directors meeting, accepted the award on Saturday afternoon last week and gave tribute to Tern TV and to Alison Millar and to BBC NI and Storyville as the broadcast partners.
The citation read:
“From a country where the Catholic Church plays a vital role comes this excellent exposition of an extremely popular cleric who hides a dark secret. The image of Father Cleary’ s public life as an unmarried and devoted folksy priest true to the Catholic celibacy rules, abruptly changes after his death. The director uses herself in a clever manner, in her journey to uncover the secrets of Father Cleary’s covered up family life. The result is a very well composed documentary, gradually revealing the Father’s shocking double life with his son’s destiny as a major component.” Clare Duignan
"Many thanks once again to Discovery Campus for providing the pitching forum through which we found this wonderful documentary." Kevin Dawson
