Alexander Schwarz joins Campus as Interim Director
Welcome Alexander Schwarz!
Donata von Perfall will go on maternity leave as of 1 August 2008 until 1 February 2009. She will continue to oversee the Masterschool 2008 and the up-coming Call for Entries 2009 and be present at the Final Pitching Session. Dr. Alexander Schwarz will act as advisor and interim on her behalf during these 6 months. We are happy that he will be supporting the Campus team and hope that you will have the opportunity to meet him soon!
Dr. Alexander Schwarz
Alexander Schwarz was born in 1961. He lives with his wife and son in Munich.
He studied German literature, film studies, Russian and history in Munich, in St. Andrews, Scotland, and at the State Film School VGIK in Moscow, Russia. 1993 he graduated as Dr. phil. (Ph.D.) from Munich University, with a dissertation on German and Russian screenplays of the silent film era.
He worked as a researcher, author and assistant for a dozen documentary films for Bayerisches Fernsehen, and joined their editorial staff as intern and freelancer. 1994 to mid-1996 he was executive producer at the nationwide commercial broadcaster Kabel 1 TV in Unterfoehring, Germany.
From June 1996 he helped launching the factual entertainment channel Discovery Channel in Germany. He headed the On Air Promotion marketing, press and Internet departments for the German speaking region. In 2001 he was promoted to Dep. GM for Discovery in the German speaking territories. From 2003 to October 2004 he was Director of Marketing, Communication and Creative Services at Discovery Networks Europe in London, for Europe, Middle East and Africa.
Late 2004 he founded his own company Tolle Idee! Project Agency (www.tolle-idee-agentur.de). With his team of writers and TV, film and book professionals Gunda Borgeest, Thomas Schwarz und Dörthe Binkert and a wider network of partners, he is developing documentary and cross media projects for production companies, TV stations, festivals and institutions. For a small group of selected TV and film writers/directors he is also acting as an agent in negotiations with production companies.
