Strong Line-up of DCM Films & Alumni at Locarno

Prestigious Locarno International Film Festival sees a strong line-up of DCM films and alumni this year. The 61st edition of the festival, running from 6-16 August, will screen two films coming out of the Masterschool 2005, The Mother / La mère by Antoine Cattin and Pavel Kostomarov, and Stolperstein / Stumbling Block by Dörte Franke. The cinematic version of Dörte’s film, featured in the programme Icy & Ailleurs will have its world premiere at Locarno IFF. Stolperstein is about a German artist’s controversial initiative to lay paving stones in memory of those the Nazis deported, in front of their former homes, all over Europe. The Mother, which was most recently screened at the 43rd Karlovy Vary Film Festival (4-12 July 2008), will run in the Appellations Suisse 2008 section. In this section of the festival, Swiss Films, the national film promotion agency, presents Swiss films that are “characterized by originality and have shaped Switzerland’s cinematic landscape or attracted a great deal of attention at major international festivals since the last festival in Locarno.”

Furthermore, two alumni of the Discovery Campus Masterschool 2004, Ben Hopkins and Marcus Vetter, will present their most recent films at Locarno. While Marcus’s documentary Das Herz von Jenin / The Heart of Jenin will also run in the Ici & Ailleurs programme, The Market – A Tale of Trade (world premiere) by Ben Hopkins will try to win one of the coveted Leopards in the International Competition. Good luck to all filmmakers and their films!
