How to apply
Your application package should include the following:
(How many copies of each document you have to hand in is indicated in brackets.)
Application Form (1x) with your signature
Exposé (14 copies)
Submit up to two exposés for documentary projects which might appeal to an international audience. We are looking for a wide range of subject matter: science, natural history, culture and the arts – scripted and constructed as well as observational ideas. Projects with potential for cross media exploitation will be particularly attractive. Please bear in mind that most of our funding will come from television sources, so be careful to target your idea in that direction even if you have cinema ambitions for it. The following details have to be part of the exposé (maximum length 2 pages!):
Name of author, company, address, nationality, title of project, subject, synopsis, genre, length, format, filmic style, motivation to make this film, target audience, brief description of the project’s international potential, rough budget (if already available). Your synopsis must give us a coherent sense of the film, and of the story you want to tell. It will not be enough to simply give us the idea or the subject matter without offering structural suggestions too.
CV and filmography (14 copies)
They should give an insight into the applicant’s professional experience in non-fiction filmmaking. The filmography has to include title, length, year, role of applicant in the production, one-sentence synopsis, financing sources and broadcasters involved.
Company Profile (14 copies)
Please send a profile of your company - if applicable.
Motivation (14 copies)
A brief description of the applicant's motivation to take part in the Documentary Campus Masterschool. As part of your motivation statement, please also add examples of two recent television programmes you have seen that you liked, and give reasons. And please clearly state exactly what role it is you will fulfil in your project (director, author, producer, etc.).
Self-presentation (1 DVD)
1 DVD PAL with an on-screen self-presentation of the applicant stating their professional background, motivation and project(s). The applicant should talk into the camera in order to speak directly to the selection committee. Maximum length: 4 min.
Previous work (1 DVD)
One tape of previous work(s) (only DVD PAL). If the applicant is a producer, s/he should also include a previous work of the documentary’s director. Advice: Just send in a short, edited show reel!
IMPORTANT – the order of the documents should be as follows:
- Application Form signed (1 copy)
- Exposé (14 copies)
- CV and filmography (14 copies)
- Company Profile (14 copies)
- Letter of Motivation (14 copies)
- Self-presentation (1 DVD PAL)
- Previous Works (1 DVD PAL > short, edited show reel)
The application documents and the self-presentation have to be submitted in English. How many copies of each document you have to hand in is indicated in brackets.
Incomplete applications cannot be taken into consideration. Documentary Campus will not return your application, but your viewing tape can be returned if you enclose sufficient postage and a self-addressed sticker.
