Reporter/Refugee (WT)

In a provincial German town, a Syrian journalist living as a refugee, reports on the men alleged to have overseen her detention and abuse, during the world’s first trial against members of the Syrian government for crimes against humanity. Blending animation with authored storytelling, the documentary follows the arc of the trial, while weaving in scenes of the narrator building a new life for herself and her family in Germany. Nearly ten years into Syria’s civil war, the film explores how a historic trial could bring some measure of justice to the tens of thousands of people who have been detained, tortured and disappeared by Bashar al-Assad’s regime.
