Mr. Kim and Sister Lotus
In a personal journey the two directors delve into their Korean-German families’ past. They tell the story of their parents—two people who never met but still have a lot in common: Kim Dong-Hai and Bang Young-Sook. When they were young both left their native Korea and moved to Western Germany. The former became a miner, the latter worked as a nurse. Both went through painful experiences—experiences they kept silent about and which still cast shadows on their families.
