Freedom Fields

In the new dawn of a nation once cut off from the world we follow a dynamic group of women from fractured sides of the revolution in their journey to discover and empower the future women of Libya through sport. Their dream: to form the first national Libyan Women‘s football team. Not an easy task. First they must fight not only the objections of their families, the football federation, religious extremists and the cultures mentality, they must also find reconciliation within the team, split by their alliances during the revolution. In a story of struggle, personal and national, how will these women deal with social pressures and the backlash of extremists? Will their first trip outside of Libya change them? In a society where marriage for a woman is central, will they have to choose between marriage and their dreams? And is ‚Free Libya‘ really free? The dramatic Libyan landscape is the backdrop to this human, characterful and heartfelt slice of Libyan life after the revolution, unveiling the struggles, cultural conflict but also the possibilities that lie ahead for women in a new Libya, on and off the football pitch. In the new dawn of a nation once cut off from the world we follow a dynamic group of women from fractured sides of the revolution in their journey to discover and empower the future women of Libya through sport.
