Tears of Elephant Boy
This documentary will tell the story of Chrishina, a mahout here in Chitwan, and his 12-year-old son, Chris. The boy has been close to elephants since he was very little and prefers playing with elephants to classmates after school because his father is a mahout. However, the boy feels down every time he sees his father treat elephants severely. His father has no other choice in order to support his family. He has to grovel to the camp manger and train elephants unmercifully. Do we really have the right to blame the mahouts for exploiting elephants? We are allured to going elephant trekking by the marketing phrase, “Eco Tour”, and then, are we really untainted by this issue?
