Theatrical release of award-winning doc Stumbling Stone
The documentary jury of the 31st Biberach Film Festival (29 October – 2 November) awarded the Golden Beaver Trophy and 3,000 Euros to Dörte Franke’s “Stumbling Stone”. The documentary, which was developed by Franke in the Discovery Campus Masterschool 2005, is a portrait, a road movie and the story of the largest decentralized memorial in the world. The film’s focus is on the conceptional artist Gunter Demnig, who has set more than 15 000 names of forgotten Nazi victims in concrete of Germany’s and Europe’s pavements.
World premiere of the cinematic version was at the 61st edition of the Locarno International Film Festival, where it was featured in the programme Icy & Ailleurs. Since August the film has travelled the festival circuit and will continue to do so in 2009. Theatrical release in Germany is scheduled for 6 November, with a premiere screening in Munich.
