Ford Foundation Just Films: Content Grant
Institution: Ford Foundation
Ford Foundation is investing $10 million a year over five years in documentary projects that address urgent social issues and help us understand our past, explore our present and build our future. Its goal is to expand the community of emerging and established filmmakers who often lack funding, and help them to realize their visions and reach audiences.
Ford Foundation's initiative Just Films focuses on film, video and digital works that show courageous people confronting difficult issues and actively pursuing a more just, secure and sustainable world.
Just Films is granting to independently-produced social justice film and digital projects in the foundation's priority areas. Just Films accepts letters of inquiry for content grants year-round. Due to the limited nature of funds, JustFilms is able to support only a small percentage of projects through direct grants. Just Films also makes several partnership grants.
Content grants are judged on the basis of:
- artistic excellence;
- contemporary relevance;
- potential for strategic impact;
- alignment with Ford Foundation priorities;
- potential to transform stereotypes, beliefs and value systems;
- creativity and innovation in form;
- focus on marginalized and vulnerable populations.
